Is Dynamite Used in Fireworks?

Considering the altitude and range of modern fireworks, one might think they must contain dynamite to work. However, this is not the case.

Dynamite is an explosive device made from nitroglycerin and other various chemicals. It’s the nitroglycerin that gives dynamite its incredible power. Nitroglycerin is an incredibly dangerous substance which is not used during the manufacture of fireworks.

History of Dynamite

Commercial dynamite was invented in 1860 by Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel. He was an inventor and builder who needed an explosive stronger than regular black powder for his projects.

Nobel successfully created an explosive device made from nitroglycerin and other various chemicals. It’s the nitroglycerin that gives dynamite its incredible power. Nitroglycerin is an incredibly dangerous substance which happily is not used during the manufacture of fireworks. Sky King Fireworks do not contain dynamite. However, we implore our customers to follow all safety rules when enjoying fireworks.

What’s in Fireworks?

Fireworks are a containment tube filled with black powder, also known as gunpowder. Mixed in with the gunpowder are small chemical globs of explosive materials also referred to as “stars.”  These “stars” are what make fireworks the colorful display we know so well.

Sky King Fireworks has a list of chemicals used in fireworks here. Various chemical combinations are used to create the brilliant colors you see in fireworks displays.
