How to light: How to Light

  • Choose a Safe Location
    1
    Step 1:

    Choose a Safe Location

Find a large open area, free of overhead obstructions (trees, power lines, buildings). Ensure the ground is flat and fire-resistant (concrete, dirt, or a sturdy plywood board). Keep spectators at least 100 feet away. Have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby.

  • Prepare the Firework
    2
    Step 2:

    Prepare the Firework

Read all instructions and warning labels on the firework. Remove any packaging that covers the fuse. Place the repeater on a flat, stable surface. If necessary, secure it by placing bricks or sandbags around the base to prevent tipping.

  • Uncover the Fuse
    3
    Step 3:

    Uncover the Fuse

Locate the fuse on the side or top of the firework. Gently pull the protective cover off to expose the fuse. Do not pull the fuse itself.

  • Light the Fuse
    4
    Step 4:

    Light the Fuse

Use a long-reach lighter, punk, or a long stick lighter to ignite the fuse. Light the very tip of the fuse and immediately step back at least 20 feet.

  • Enjoy the Show from a Safe Distance
    5
    Step 5:

Enjoy the Show from a Safe Distance

Once lit, never attempt to relight a dud firework. Do not stand over or near the firework after lighting. Watch and enjoy from a safe location.

  • Clean Up & Dispose of Safely
    6
    Step 6:

Clean Up & Dispose of Safely

Wait at least 15 minutes before approaching the firework. Douse spent fireworks with water to ensure no live embers remain. Dispose of them in a metal container away from flammable materials.
